Q&A
How is the Monarch’s season progressing compared to expectations?
“The 2023 season is going really well for our team so far. Being able to start 17-0 and play some solid opponents away like NJCU, Elizabethtown, Cairn and Eastern allowed us to get a feel for the away game environment. Our last two games against SVU and LBC were two games that showed us where we are and what we need to improve on going forward into conference play. One thing about this team is that we’re never settling, there’s a hunger for more and to be a name up there with teams in our conference and in the nation. For a program in only our 3rd year I believe that with the group of guys we have we are truly making a name for ourselves. Our expectations in January were lower than what he have accomplished thus far. We have been able to go to the next level and are continuing to strive and to be hungry to climb that ladder.”
The MAC conference playoffs will be here soon. Which team do you think is the team to beat in the conference tournament and why?
“The MAC conference tournament playoffs will definitely be a very interesting and exciting tournament this year. You have Stevens who’s #1 and Messiah at #6 in the country. Then you have teams like Arcadia, King’s, Stevenson and Misericordia, who are all very talented teams battling for spots as well. As for who’s the team to beat, I’d say Stevens and Messiah but the other teams are always going to give it their all when we play them.”
Give us your picks for the NCAA D3 final 4!
“My NCAA D3 Volleyball Final Four would be: (in no particular order) Stevens, Springfield, Juniata, and Vassar. But I can also see North Central, Messiah, and Carthage sneaking in potentially.”
Which player have you been most impressed by (outside of your own teammates) this season and why?
“A player I have been impressed by this season would have to be Christian Sheaffer from Southern Virginia. Playing against him and his team was something I was looking forward to. He’s a very talented athlete and player, his ability to hit shots and create, and his serve were what really impressed me when we went at each other. We did earn each other’s respect during the game and with him being a sophomore, his future is bright.”
What has been your favorite part of the Monarch’s season thus far?
“What has been my favorite part of the season thus far is the opportunity that our team has and how we have grown in just a couple of months. The leadership and culture we have created has truly made this sport a fan favorite at our school. Having the opportunity to play nationally ranked teams has always been an opportunity I wanted and this season we are getting that chance. A part of this season that was a true favorite was our wins against AIC and NJCU, being a team to rack in 17 wins to start the season was great and with the talent we have faced and coming up, I’m nothing but excited for it.”
