Light schedule tonight for D3 Men’s volleyball with just a handful of games on the docket. Let’s take a quick look…
Colin Schaefer spread 25 assists and Matt Degnan scattered 15 as Augustana downed NAIA St. Andrews in 4 sets. Ben Schultz had 5 blocks and 9 kills and Aiden Bolen added 11 kills for the Spartans. Augustana improved to 4-1 on the season with the only blemish a heartbreaking 5-set loss to MSOE.
Ramapo, working with mostly an entire new roster, blew out Lehman tonight to improve to 2-0. Jojo Meyer had 28 assists along with 6 digs, 2 aces, and 2 blocks, while Reece Kirchofer ripped 9 kills and added 10 digs. Some nice contributing efforts by a trio of Roadrunners tonight with Anubis Roman hitting .833 with 5 kills, Amari Menter hitting .667 with 6 kills, and Nick Lisi with 7 kills and hitting .600. It was the second sweep in a row for the Roadrunners who took out Cairn last Saturday.
Springfield swept Elms tonight as the Pride improve to 5-1 and are on a 5-game win streak. Ethan Weislo with a nice effort as he posts 35 assists, 6 digs, 2 aces and 6 kills in the win. Joel DeCamp hit .818 with 9 kills and no attack errors while James Browning and Noah Weislo shined on the attack with 14 and 11 kills respectively. Tyler Simmons and Paolo Mondini combined for 17 digs on the back row. This Friday at 6PM, The Pride will take on Vassar at Blake Arena. That’s a must-see game so save the date and this link.
John Jay outlasted SUNY-Purchase over 4 sets tonight and got a few big performances by the Bloodhounds at the Doghouse. Ky Barriffe-Johnson has no errors on the attack, posting 14 kills and a .667 hit percentage while adding 5 blocks. Logan Ramos had 17 kills and Sebastien Rodriguez added 8. Logan also added 14 digs on defense. Alex Bridgelall had 36 assists, 6 kills, 6 digs, and also launched 9 aces in the match. John Jay evens their record at 1-1 on the season and will host Bard on Wednesday. Channing Williams with a nice performance had 9 kills for Purchase.
Benedictine handed Illinois Wesleyan their first loss of the season in a tight 3-set sweep. Chase Olsen hit .533 with 10 kills, 6 digs, 4 blocks and an ace to help the Eagles improve to 2-1. Some nice work from some Titans tonight, despite the loss, as Jake Kougan hits .545 with 7 kills and Michael Eastman who had 8 kills.
Tonight we are going to grant “Player of the Night” honors to senior setter Alex Bridgelall of John Jay. The 9 aces by the Queens native on top of an already outstanding match put him over the top. Congrats Alex!
