With one month of the season under our belts, InsideHitter.com is taking its first shot at sharing the player rater algorithm with fans. This algorithm measures the TOTAL contribution to a team. It factors in points for specific categories of stats and weighs them in the overall formula. It also considers strength of competition in the algorithm thus if you are getting quality stats against higher level opponents your individual rating will be higher. We do separate breakouts on attack, block, defense, setting and serving but the overall algorithm is usually the first to publish. This also gives us the latitude to do rankings by class, by state, and other looks that can provide quality information to our fans. If you are a player at the 95th percentile or above, you are considered among the D3 elite. This presentation takes into account a minimum of 10 sets played so of you are looking for your name as a player, one you hit the minimum sets, you will be included. The overall population of players is roughly 2,200. Some schools have still not posted stats or are not visible to our retrieval tool, but we have included 96% of the teams and all teams in top 90% of ranking points. All constructive feedback is welcome at insidehitter@gmail.com or in comments to this post.
