Bridgewater College Eagles continue to build the foundation of their new men’s volleyball program as the season moves forward under the leadership of Colton Frey, who was previously announced as the program’s first head coach. With the Eagles now officially in competition and having secured their first victory, Frey’s role in shaping the direction of the program has quickly shifted from launch phase to on court execution.

Frey was hired by Bridgewater College following two seasons as head coach of the Broadway High School volleyball program, where his teams totaled 18 wins and closed his final season by winning four of their last five matches. Prior to that, he spent two years as an assistant coach at Eastern Mennonite Royals, gaining experience at the collegiate level that has proven valuable as Bridgewater transitions into varsity play.

The hiring was announced by Director of Athletics Curt Kendall as part of the college’s broader effort to establish men’s volleyball as a long term varsity sport. Kendall cited Frey’s energy and passion for the game as key qualities for leading a first year program, particularly one tasked with developing competitive standards while navigating the early challenges of a new schedule and roster.

Frey brings a strong academic and playing background into the role. A 2018 graduate of Eastern Mennonite University, he earned CVC All-Academic honors four times and competed on Royals teams that reached national rankings in two seasons. He completed his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at EMU and later earned a graduate degree in Teacher Leadership from James Madison University in 2022.

As the Eagles begin to find footing on the court, Frey’s early emphasis has centered on establishing identity, consistency, and competitive habits. The program’s first win serves as an early benchmark, offering tangible progress as Bridgewater continues to navigate its inaugural campaign.

Bridgewater men’s volleyball is set to become the department’s 25th intercollegiate sport during the 2025–26 academic year. With leadership in place and results beginning to appear on the scoreboard, the Eagles are moving from concept to competition, laying the groundwork for sustained growth within Division III men’s volleyball.
