Hunter College named Sean Salomons head coach of its men’s volleyball program beginning with the 2025–26 academic year, marking the first collegiate head coaching role of his career. Salomons also joins the Hawks’ women’s volleyball staff as Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, giving him an expanded role within the department.
Salomons arrives at Hunter with nearly a decade of coaching and program leadership experience across the collegiate, high school, and club levels. A former dual sport collegiate athlete, he brings a player centered approach built on competitive standards, academic accountability, and long term athlete development.
Collegiate Coaching Experience
Prior to his appointment at Hunter, Salomons served as head coach of both the men’s and women’s volleyball programs at St. Joseph’s University Brooklyn. During his tenure, he guided the women’s program to its first winning season since 2018 while overseeing all aspects of team operations, including practice planning, travel logistics, and budget management.
Recruiting academically motivated student athletes was a central focus of Salomons’ work at St. Joseph’s, and both programs maintained a 100 percent graduation rate under his leadership. His ability to balance competitive goals with academic outcomes became a defining element of his coaching profile.
Development at the High School and Club Levels
Since 2019, Salomons has coached varsity boys’ and girls’ volleyball at Packer Collegiate Institute. Under his guidance, the girls’ program earned multiple top ten rankings among New York State private schools, reinforcing his reputation for building disciplined and competitive teams.
In addition to volleyball, Salomons serves as Director of the Supreme Basketball NYC high school AAU program, where he oversees organizational strategy, coach development, fundraising, and player development initiatives throughout the city. The role reflects his broader commitment to youth sports and multi sport athlete growth.
Background as a Student Athlete and Leader
Salomons earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from St. Joseph’s University New York, where he competed in both volleyball and basketball. He also served as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, gaining early leadership experience that continues to shape his coaching philosophy.
At Hunter, Salomons takes over a men’s volleyball program competing in the CUNYAC, where the Hawks face familiar conference opponents such as Baruch, Brooklyn, CCNY, John Jay, Lehman, Medgar Evers, NJCU, and York. His hiring reflects the program’s focus on culture building, recruiting continuity, and sustained competitive growth.
As the Hawks prepare for the upcoming season, Salomons brings a resume defined by development, accountability, and academic success. His arrival signals a new chapter for Hunter men’s volleyball as the program looks to strengthen its footing within the conference and beyond.
